The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25
O riginally planning to make La Bastide de Moustiers a home and hideaway for him and his friends, multi Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse stumbled upon the 17th century derelict farm- house in 1994 while riding his motorcycle on the roads of Provence. “I discovered a house standing amidst lav- ender and olive trees,” said Ducasse. “I made it my anchoring harbour, my home, before deciding to open it to others. It has always had this special place in my heart, and it still has today.” He entrusted the Michelin-starred kitchens to Chef Frédéric Garnier, a man who has been faithful to him for almost 20 years. Full of charm, La Bastide de Moustiers is located at the heart of the Alpes de Haute Provence region and a former property of an earthenware master, it offers a splendid view on Moustiers-Sainte-Marie ‘cliff’. The main building was restored by local artisans, with Ducasse asking his designer friend Tonia Peyrot to give the building a special feeling that makes it so endearing. The food served here remains close to the earth and is widely inspired by the inn’s vegetable and fruit gardens. It has 11 unique rooms set around the prop- erty’s grounds and reflect the Provencal countryside’s white and powdery pink hues. A master chef who loves simple and authentic flavours, guests will savour exceptional regional food including Beauregard lamb, cheese from Banon, truffle from Reiz, and Cavaillon melon as well as the Sonaio, the homemade cocktail that honours the Amandine (a local liquor). www.bastide-moustiers.com La Bastide de Moustiers, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, France Jada Brookes rounds up a number of hotels and restaurants to visit in Italy and France for families and discerning travellers alike.
