The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25
bite exhibition manner of imagination are on display in a collage of black box vignettes, backlit by bright rainbow colours, making the room feel like a giant window display - one-of-a-kind pieces featured in each niche to arouse and inspire for the masses to ponder over and daydream about wearing. I, for one, went and swooned over each alcove, but was most impressed with the humour of some of the garments, as in the naked man suit or a giant TV dinner printed cape, or a dress made out of sliced meat. It was all deliciously unique and dare I say, campy. There are a large number of designers whose work is on view at the exhibition including Giorgio Armani for Armani Privé; Cristóbal Balenciaga; Christopher Bailey for Burberry; Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen; Christian Dior; Salvatore Ferragamo; Jean Paul Gaultier; Pam Hogg; Christian Lacroix; Karl Lagerfeld for House of Chanel and Chloé; Marc Jacobs; Philip Treacy; and Yves Saint Laurent. The exhibition is organised by Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, with Karen Van Godtsenhoven, Associate Curator, and Amanda Garfinkel, As- sistant Curator. Theatre scenographer Jan Versweyveld, whose work includes Lazarus with David Bowie, as well as Broadway productions of A View from the Bridge and Network, created the exhibition design with The Met’s Design Department and consulted on the gala décor with Raul Avila, who has produced the décor since 2007. All headdresses are specially created for the exhibition by Stephen Jones. CAMP: Notes on Fashion is on at the Metropolitan Museum of Art until 8th September 2019.
