The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25

bite cars While you admire the new Supra’s amazing design, you may notice that the low bonnet generates a dynamic line that flows rearwards from the car’s low nose, while the back edge of the bonnet and the rear spoiler are set at almost the same height, linked by a low belt line. The underbody has a slight forward angle while the cabin has a strong rearward slant, with blacked-out front pillars and charac- ter lines on the side of the roof emphasising the taut, compact cab- in. The sharp-looking, sturdy sills express the car’s high rigidity. At the rear, the arching lip spoiler has been optimised to suppress lift, while a trapezoidal shape to the rear bumper generates a sense of movement down and out towards the tyres. The rear combi- nation lights have a simple internal ring arrangement, while the distinctive rear fog lights and reversing lights are formed by dot- LEDS grouped in the centre of the lower bumper. As well as these features, the Supra comes in a range of eight different colour choic- es for the paintwork, including strong red, yellow and blue shades. Verdict Whilst the Supra’s name may not have really appeared on the map until the fourth generation was launched in 1993 thanks to the bulletproof, twin turbocharged six-cylinder engine that was adored by power hungry tuning fans the world over, the line-up of buyers for the 2019 model proves that many car enthusiasts have welcomed this revival model from Toyota. The only difference is that the Japanese marque partnered with BMW to share the devel- opment costs of the Supra with the Z4 M40i which has an infotain- ment system that is a lightly made-over version of BMW’s iDrive. Inside, you will find more BMW-inspired components such as the switches, knobs, stalks and displays. There are plenty of toys too on the basic model while the Pro grade adds a few luxuries for a reasonable price. But on this model it’s more about fun rather than its ultimate speed and performance. With all the electronics turned on, it’s a precise tool with a fantastic balance and when they are turned off, drivers can use the accelerator pedal to steer the car out of a corner. In Comfort mode, it gives you a decent ride and in Sport mode, it sharpens up the body control, giving you a range of big distances. As they say, ‘the fun is in the ride’ and owners of this model will definitely discover that this model is really good to drive thanks to it being crisp, responsive, well connected and quick. On the road, it is calm, making it flow along easily, undistracted by lumps and bumps and each wheel is well controlled, making it ideal to drive on a long trip. It may be part German, part Japanese on both the inside and outside but with good dynamics, a lot of people will be pleased with this model. And if they’re not, perhaps they should go for the BMW Z4 instead. www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/gr-supra
