The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25

bite catwalk I nspired by French designer Rene Lalique (1860-1945), also known as the father of modern jewellery, Ailanto translat- ed the designer’s legendary Art Nouveau styled glassworks into luxurious garments. Inspirations came from colours of gold, tortoiseshell, ivory and semi-precious gems such as ame- thyst, tourmaline and opal, with dreamy tones combined togeth- er in amongst a whimsical set of draped floral fabrics. Giving the image of a fantastical bohemian forest, the catwalk music was enhanced with the sound of birds chirping, further transporting the onlooker away. Lalique was further known for his use of the female figure and wildlife within his designs, utilising his vast knowledge of art to create sensual, exuberant designs that Ailan- to has further translated into prints and textiles. Stunning floral prints divulge into blocks of colours broken up with sequinned embellishments of leaves and palm trees. A heavily ruffled jacket made of layers of brown lace embraced the organic style of the collection, while V-shaped necklines add- ed a strong look to the styles featured throughout the dresses and blouses, with the addition of jumpsuits providing further elements. A swan motif style lace fabric featured as a sheer blouse and a see-through jacket, which was fresh and delicate to the eye. Sensual blacks divulged into fun corals and bright blues maintained the golden motifs of the palm tree. Busy floral prints remained statement, playing with colour and textiles, and paired with lightweight fabrics. The addition of movement was reminiscent of flowers moving in the wind creating a whimsical sense of life through the prints. https://ailanto.com
