The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24
B efore she ventured into jewellery design, Carol Bosack, who founded Carol Richard Jewellery in 2018, had been on a rather interesting journey in terms of her former career. After graduating with a degree in Psychology and Den- tistry, her work involved developing dental programmes for adults with intellectual and learning disabilities. Although she had found this challenging and rewarding, she had the urge to travel. Just like her desire for jewellery design, travelling had been a lifelong passion. Returning to school, Carol earned two Master’s degrees in Industrial Relations and Organisational Development which enabled her to work in Human Resources in an international setting. It was while she working at Diageo that she was given the opportunity to move from Chicago to the UK. Calling London her home for more than a decade, the designer met her husband here and a year ago, she made the decision to leave the corporate world to devote her life to her passions. Even while she was working in the corporate world, the thought of pursuing jewellery design was never far from her mind. “I have always loved seeing the jewellery people choose to adorn themselves with, in different cultures and countries, at the office, at special events and everyday settings. Even when I was working as an international HR expert, I was taking courses in jewellery design and informally advising friends and colleagues, sourcing and buying unusual pieces for them from all around the world.” I had the pleasure of meeting the jewellery designer at Danielle de Montby’s boutique in Chelsea last year and immediately warmed to her. Carol has a way of making you feel relaxed and so comfortable. Her voice has a gentle and soothing tone and you could speak to her for hours about virtually any subject including jewellery. Having studied with the world-renowned Gemmological Institute of America GIA) and qualified as a certified gemmologist, her knowledge on precious stones is impeccable. With the skills necessary to identify high quality gems and minerals, Carol is also fascinated by ‘rock stones’. She doesn’t just admire them but wants to know: Where do these stones come from? How were these minerals formed? Have they adorned ancient people? Or were they just recently (in geolog- ical time) created or discovered? “I love the idea that the raw beauty of these gems reflects the history of our universe – from galaxies of exploding stars to the grinding effects of wind, water and pressure over time on our earth.” A designer who works with extraordinary gems and minerals, Jada Brookes discovers what makes people seek out Carol Bosack’s beautiful jewelley. bite jewellery CAROL RICHARD JEWELLERY Designer Profile
