Telling the story of where it all began, Jada Brookes follows Lenny and Zoë Kravitz on their personal journey to their family roots with the new TUMI Alpha 3 luggage. bite bags PERFECTING THE JOURNEY G oing back to where it all began is the essence of honouring your family’s origins: their traditions, storytell- ing and values that have been passed from generation to generation. To exemplify the meaning of personal journeys, TUMI worked with music legend, designer and ac- tor Lenny Kravitz and his daughter, actress and musician Zoë Kravitz whose visit to their family roots in The Bahamas was cap- tured on camera in a campaign directed by Eliot Rausch which illustrated the strength- ening of the bonds that individuals create. The video campaign entitled ‘What the Fu- ture Holds’ sees Zoë travelling by boat to the island to meet her father who introduc- es her to the land where her ancestors lived. Lenny shows her a photograph of him and his father from the family archives of them dressed in similar suits taken in Nassau. What is fascinating about this video is the narrative between the two as they explore the caves, meet relatives and go to the other end of the island to the house where Zoë’s grandfather grew up. “To me, this campaign is about connecting with ourselves, our roots, and with each other,” said Zoë Kravitz. “I loved working with TUMI and the idea of telling a story about travel, family and connecting with one’s roots. It was amazing to travel to the other side of the island for my first time to see where my family originated from and to pay respect to our elders and those who came before us – to experience that with my father was monumental.” Recalling the stories told to her about her roots, she said, “The Bahamas holds a lot of meaning for me. When I was a kid, it was like this magical place that my dad talked about a lot with so much love and passion. I think it always made him feel connected to his mom – my grandmother – who called it home. I also saw it as a peaceful place where you could go and rejuvenate. It’s a special trip he shared with me. I have so many wonderful memories associated with The Bahamas too.” Working on the TUMI campaign gave the actress the opportunity to work with her fa- ther in front of the cameras for the first time which proved to be a wonderful experience Lenny Kravitz
