bite beauty S uck it, tuck it, peel it, plump it, inject it, fill it, pull it, stuff it… and now freeze it? Plastic surgery manoeuvres and procedures have come a long, long way since the days of rock-hard breast implants and scary vacuum-like liposuction. Today, well-trained beauty practitioners and plastic surgeons have more ways of sculpting the human body than an artist does with clay. If you can envision it, some doctor or aesthetician somewhere can make your personal idea of the perfect you a reality. In recent years alone, the number of reality shows focusing on the subject has increased a 100-fold, and the number of celebrity stories about who’s had what ‘done’ covers more media headlines than news reports on famine and genocide. And seriously, when a 16-year-old wants Botox for their birthday instead of a car so they can look ‘filter perfect,’ you know society has reached a new era of crazy beauty-mania. Admittedly, having a little ‘some- thing’ done myself in order to look better, I recently developed a huge curiosity into a relatively new beauty trend - Cryo Freezing! It was through discovering something called CoolSculpting, Cryotherapy and CryoSkin in which one shocks the skin by plunging its normal temperature to below freezing for tightening effects that I realised that it can also be used to target specific areas of fat on the body. CryoSkin is slightly different in the way that one could literally use it to zero-in and spot-treat-freeze your trouble areas away! Say goodbye to your love-handles, jiggly thighs and hello to a trimmer waistline (by as much as two inches in 28 minutes) with basically no recovery time! After having my baby, my body hasn’t quite gone back to the way it was, so in a bid to find a spa that would provide the right kind of treatment that would target reducing the fat pockets around my middle in as little time as possible and with the least amount of recovery time, I found House of Cryo. Having opened nearly a year ago, founder and creator, Chris Martine, took his knowledge of the CryoSkin treatments which were developed and launched five years ago in France and brought it to the good people of New York City. Originating in Paris, France, Cry- oSkin is the most advanced non-invasive treatment that uses both heat and cold to help tone, slim, and tighten areas of the body. The treatment breaks down fat cells which eventually pass through the lymphatic system. My first visit to House of Cryo was in early January of this year but prior to my visit, I had spent some time on the phone with one of their lead aestheticians, Ashley Sanchez, to discuss the spa’s different treatment services and what they had to offer. Sanchez, who has been practicing as an aesthetician for seven years, was amazing in helping me to understand exactly what CryoSkin was and what it could do to help improve the shape of one’s body. The spa, she explained, provides a selection of three different CryoSkin procedures: Cryo Slimming, Cryo Toning and their Cryo Facial. She suggested I initially try the Cryo Slimming treatment
