The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24
customised design that sold out in less than 24 hours, which led to more being released. The first dis- tribution was white clogs featuring a yellow devil design with six cus- tom-designed Jibbitz charms. One of which was a re-creation of Post’s famous tattoo ‘Stay Away’ while the other was the logo for the artist’s Posty Co. The second batch released was yellow with a barbed-wire design and also featured six Jibbitz charms. Whilst he won ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2018 MTV VMAs and was nominated in six catego- ries at the 2018 American Music Awards, including Favourite Male Artist for Rap/Pop and Artist of the Year, Post had a few brushes with death. The plane he was travelling on had to make an emer- gency landing after two tyres blew out, followed by a car crash in West Hollywood a few weeks later and then another car accident in which the Rolls- Royce he was travelling in collided with a Kia. Thankfully, he came out of all three incidents unscathed. Like most want-to-be artists, Post started with a mixtape enti- tled August 26th that was released earlier in 2016 and featured the likes of Larry June, 2 Chainz, FKi 1st, Jeremih, Lil Yachty, Jaden Smith and Teo. The title was initially a ref- erence to the release of his debut studio album Stoney which featured lead single ‘White Iverson’ but didn’t materialise as planned due to problems. It was finally released on 9th December 2016. His second album, Beerbongs & Bentleys followed with lead single ‘Rockstar’ and fifth release ‘Better Now’. Interestedly, two years after its release, Stoney is still buzzing. According to Hits Daily Double , Post’s debut album is the tenth most popular release of 2018, based on ‘total activity’ that measures album sales and total streams. With that said, Beerbongs & Bentleys held the No. 2 spot for the same year, meaning that Post has succeeded in making listenable and enjoya- ble music. Now one of the most popular artists in the business, his perseverance in overcoming his haters has certainly paid off. For the soundtrack of ani- mated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he and Swae Lee featured on the song ‘Sun- flower’. Then he sprung an early Christmas present on his fans by releasing ‘Wow’, fulfilling his promise that he would bring something out before the end of the year. With an animated Christmas theme featuring the head of Father Christmas with gold teeth, dragons, rockets, a NFL player dancing and the artist jigging between two Christmas trees as well as sitting on a throne, it is sure to be a huge winner. www.postmalone.com bite music celeb
