Images courtesy of Satellite 414 S eemingly centred around the subject of life and death, Palace released their latest single ‘Martyr’ taken from their second album Life After. The video directed by Claes Nordwall (Parquet Courts, Blaenavon, Steve Gunn) is centred around the band’s incendiary live performance and explores the lyrical themes of ‘Martyr’ through striking symbolism and effects. The second album is a follow up to their 2016 debut release So Long Forever. ‘Martyr’ is the third track to be released, following the seven-minute track ‘Heaven Up There’ (Lauren Laverne’s ‘headphone moment’ on BBC 6 Music) and the deeply optimistic ‘No Other’. After demo’ing the tracks at their Tottenham studio,The Arch, Palace turned to Catherine Marks (2018’s UK Producer of the Year; St Vincent,Wolf Alice and PJ Harvey) at Willesden’s Assault & Battery studios and Luke Smith (Foals, Slow Club) at Jump Studios inTottenham to record the album in summer 2018. Offering a clear message of hope on their second album, the eleven tracks are among the finest the band have pro- duced, full of the melodic warmth and rich textures that have earned them their legions of fans overnight following the release of their debut EP in 2014. Having built a dedi- cated live following through mesmerising shows at some of the country’s finest venues, the band will play some of the world’s biggest festivals this summer before a European tour in October and a UK tour in November including the Camden Roundhouse. www.wearepalace.com bite new music Martyr
