The Bite Magazine Issue 17

Kin’s heart-warming harmonies through- out Lakeman’s forthcoming new album. The trio will be playing with the artist on his headline tour at the end of the year. The Bite Magazine: How did you get to work with producer Jamie Evans and mixing engineer Bradley Spence? Emillie: Well that came through our management, and apparently they were in our ballpark unknowingly. There was an open mic session close to where we lived which just happened be the local pub of our now management. So they kind of kept their eyes on us for probably a good year until they actually approached us and said they would like to manage us. The Bite Magazine: So they were watching your development from afar? Wildwood Kin: Yeah, pretty much! They knew we were getting bookings, and there was a spark of interest in the air. But I think they were looking to see if we were really taking it seriously, and not just as a passing hobby. And we’ve been really blessed in them reaching out to us and putting us forward through all the right channels and in working with the right people, as we have a tendency to say yes to everything (laughs). The Bite Magazine: Do you feel there’s a reoccurrence of folk music, or more so acoustic sets of sorts and songwriting as a whole? Wildwood Kin: I do think there is a bit of an undercurrent in that, as there are snippets of Folk in all genres of music, as with acoustics, folk rock and so on. But from a songwriter’s point of view, I think it’s somewhat inevitable. I think audiences want good songs, and story- telling seems to slip into areas of folk and country. The Bite Magazine: What can we look forward to towards the end of the year with Wildwood Kin? Emillie: Well, we’re in the process of making an album, which will be our first. That’s likely to be early next year, and we’re still working with Jamie Evans and Bradley Spence, so we will have some- thing for you shortly. We’ll be writing and recording this coming month, which will be fun. And we’re looking forward to performing again very soon, and want to thank everybody for their support. www.wildwoodkin.com bite music
