Just Like Fire S he first emerged as an R&B singer in early 2000 with her distinctive raspy voice and stood out from among the mass of blonde popstars around at that time with fuch- sia-coloured hair. Prior to her debut album Can’t Take Me Home being released, P!nk was in a female R&B group called Choice. Although they were signed to a record deal after music producer L.A. Reid heard their song ‘Key to My Heart’, the group did not end up releasing the album they had worked on. At a Christmas party Reid gave P!nk an ultimatum: go solo or go home. It was through her decision to take the former option that we were able to experience the amazing voice of the singer with her first single ‘There You Go’ which showed off her dance moves as well as her motor- cycling skills. The most dramatic part of the music video to the song was when P!nk skilfully jumps off the motorcycle she’s riding and watches as it careers through the air into her former flame’s apartment, almost knocking him down. It also gave us an insight into the rock chick that the singer would become when she transitioned from the genre of R&B to alternative rock. Besides ‘There You Go’, my second favourite song from the album was ‘Most Girls’ which has a rock chick tendency with an R&B underlining that worked very well. In the beginning of the video, we get treated to a couple of very sexy masculine men playing the drum and cello, while a third is working out with weights which I would welcome in my home any day of the week. Then we witness the singer in her tough tomboyish demeanour performing some challenging workout exercises as well as girl power dance moves with back-up dancers while showing off her toned midriff. Her stage name derives from the name of the charac- ter ‘Mr Pink’ in Quentin Tarantino’s film Reservoir Dogs which initially had been perceived as a ‘mean thing’ in which her friends said she resembled the character. P!nk also did not lead a colourful life in her teenage years and this fact may support her statement which says, “I was extreme.
