I t was very befitting that Bugatti opened their third car showroom and lifestyle bou- tique in Monte Carlo, the city where the namesake of their new luxurious, powerful, and exclusive production super sports car was born. “Monaco is inseparably linked with the brand history of Bugatti. Louis Chiron, who gave his name to our new super sports car, was born here and became a legend when he won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1931,” Dr. Stefan Brungs, Member of the Board of Management of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S remarked. Since its debut at the Geneva International Motor Show earlier this year, Bugatti has secured over 200 orders of the new Chiron, with the first vehicle being delivered to a customer in the autumn. And it would not have been a cele- bration of victories past if Bugatti’s new shining star had not made an appearance at both Le Mans and Goodwood. With the theme of this year’s Goodwood Fes- tival of Speed based on ‘Full Throttle – The Endless Pursuit of Power’, the Bugatti Chiron was presented at the legendary hill climb, piloted by British racing driver and Le Mans winner Andy Wallace. “As the most powerful and fastest production super sports car in the world, the Chiron embodies the motto of this year’s event like no other car in its class,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S, while Andy Wallace who has been Bugatti’s official driver since 2011 commented before the event, “It is a great honour for me to drive this exceptional vehicle at such a fantastic event, especially since this will be its premiere in my home country. I’m sure this will be the highlight of the festival.” The previous week, the Chiron completed a parade lap at Le Mans’ ‘Circuit des 24 Heures’ with Wolfgang Dürheimer at the wheel, a track where the super car brand won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1937 and 1939. Driving Capacity When you first set your eyes on the new Bugatti Chiron, you’ll immediately notice it has a different look to the Veyron. It still has that beastly with an element of beauty look but appears slightly bigger and more defined. In fact, the Chiron embodies Bugatti’s new design lan- guage and has achieved a 25 percent increase in performance thanks to the engineers looking at every single part of the engine before it being newly developed.The increase in weight caused by the high power output is compen- sated through the greater use of lightweight materials such as titanium and carbon fibre. Inside this beast of a machine is an eight-li- tre W16 engine that delivers an unbelievable 1,500 bps and reaches a maximum torque of 1,600 Nm thanks to a Bugatti-developed four turbocharger which is now double-powered and guarantees a maximum torque of 2,000 rpm which maintains its level all the way up to 6,000 rpm. With an acceleration of 0-60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 261 mph, the Chiron has fulfilled Bugatti’s dream of reclaim- ing its title as the fastest car in the world.The French luxury brand also ensured that every- one present at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show was made aware that their new model is the world’s most powerful, luxuri- ous and exclusive production super sports car on the road. To maintain this expectation, besides being champions in terms of maximum acceleration, the Chiron has been designed to be an agile, modern Bugatti with handling that ensures maximum driving pleasure. It has special carbon ceramic brake discs made from carbon silicon carbide (CSiC) that make the discs lighter as well as provide greater improved corrosion resistance, performance and durability. Interior Inspired by the Bugatti Atlantic, the interior of the Chiron reflects the stylistic themes of the exterior thus creating a symmetrical layout. With the open oval based on a stylised ‘C’ of Louis Chiron’s signature, you will notice that it forms a dominant element throughout the model.This is especially visible in the side view of the super sports car and in the passenger compartment as a separating line between the symmetrical units for driver and passenger. The C-shaped light strip emerges from the front bonnet into the passenger compartment as a raised graphic element and beautifully merges seamlessly into the dashboard.
