The Bite Magazine Issue 17
when you come here for all your beauty treatments. With a team of nine interna- tional stylists who collectively have over a century of experience in the salon industry, it would be insanely difficult to leave with a ‘bad’ haircut or colour job. When I scheduled my first visit to Marie-Lou & D, I was booked in with the, and I’m a bit embarrassed to say as I’m a happily married woman, incredibly handsome and charming, Yoann Forlini. Now ladies, nothing in this world can compare to having a French man who speaks beautifully accented English make your hair look above and beyond gor- geous. In all my life, in all my travels, I have never, ever left a salon feeling more confident and alluring - yea, he’s just.That. Good! As a creative colourist and stylist, Yoann was able to take my depressingly fine, limp and lifeless brunette locks and masterfully transform them into a volup- tuous main of glistening mahogany-hued tresses. (The salon uses Shu Uemura and Kérastase for hair care and Caudalie, OPI and Cirepil French wax orWella for their spa and nail treatments, which help the stylists give their clients the best end results). I remember leaving after this first appointment and literally strutting down the street, feeling truly pretty, com- plete with a coquettish smile. “Whether you’re looking for balayage (a natural-looking effect dye), blowouts, keratin treatments, perfect nails, waxing, or the perfect haircut – Marie-Lou & D are here to cater to your every whim.” With plans for expanding in the near future, I can only hope and pray that the brilliance that is Marie-Lou & D will enlighten other’s beauty routines as they have mine.Yoann, you’ve got a client for life, and I can’t wait for my roots to begin growing out so I can come back again soon! A bientot and bisou bisou mes amies! F un Q uestions What’s behind the name Marie-Lou & D? Marie-Lou is my muse. She’s a modern day Parisian Cinderella who wants to look stylish, chic, and beautiful no matter what age and how many resources she has. She represents the urban and chic modern woman — someone who is global in her approach, just like the products and services at the salon, from Parisian updos and balayage, Jap- anese products like Shu Uemura, and French spa products from Caudalie. Which of these services are the most popular? I would say colour services highlights and balayage followed closely by styling services with blow-outs and since we have our French experts on board, the chignons. What are some of the hot new trends for hair and nails this autumn? Matte nails, rose gold balayage, textured haircuts, and modern updos. With the weather finally cooling off, are there any go-to tips you’d like to share to keep one’s hair/nails/skin in the best shape when dealing with cooler temps, rain and snow, hat hair and wearing gloves. We recommend adding a moisturising masque to your hair routine. Getting routine facials and adding a night cream to your skin regime is highly suggested as the temperature drops. Do you ever work with New York fashion weeks? Yes, our team had the honour of working them. Are there any beloved beauty trends that will never go out of style? Red lips, big bouncy blowouts, and natural looking balayage that compliments some- one’s features. If you could warn people to avoid one huge beauty mistake, what would it be? Or rather, what’s the one beauty mistake you see people making that you wish they wouldn’t? People who want a beauty trend or look that doesn’t fit into their lifestyle or compromises the integrity of their hair. We do full consultations with our clients so they are aware of what maintenance is required to upkeep the look they desire and ensure we are keeping the hair’s health in mind. Do you offer any group services, like for bridal parties or proms? Absolutely, we love taking care of groups! Please explain what Beautiful Karma is - it sounds like a great charity! Beautiful Karma is a very important phase in our brand existence. Dharmen- dra is a philanthropist and giving back is ingrained in his DNA. Beautiful Karma is about educating less privileged girls in the art of hairstyling and giving them a skill and the power to change their life. As we grow we will be able to do so many other things starting from here and we are excited at this prospect.
