W ith a passion that has followed him through- out his teenage years,Will Smith (no, not the Hollywood actor), a DJ turned management and booking agent has his own self-acclaimed agency that speaks business and industry, simply called ‘‘The Bks Agency’. Founded in London's east end, Smith created The Bks Agency with the concept of gathering some of the world’s premiere female DJs under one banner. An agency like no other, it filled a gap in the market, focusing on all things feminine and representing a heightened calibre of model globe-trotting ladies, whose talents are playing music at notable events and parties while leaving a clear benchmark for those to follow, in what you can probably label as: beauty and the beats. Sitting down with Will Smith, the creative manager and the book agent explained how it all began: “As a teenager, my older brother Charley first introduced me to the entertainment industry. He taught me how to DJ on his Technics 1210 turntable deck and would sneak me into the clubs when I was 11, where I would play during his set. Halfway through, a bouncer caught sight of me and kicked me off the decks and out of the club for being way too young. He had my mum waiting outside with the car to swiftly take me home. By being a DJ and playing music I had already worked with managers and booking agents myself which gave me a real insight into how things worked on putting on events.That's when I started to get interested in the business side of the industry.” It was through modelling and attending fashion events that Smith noticed there was a real demand for female DJs to play at after parties and launches and it was through these differentiating experiences that inspired him to create The Bks Agency.“I’m very entrepreneur- ial by nature, or at least I think I am.
