F rench Tuesdays started the weekend off by putting the 9 to 5 shift on the shelf and opening the party doors for their Masquer- ade Ball. With masks of disguises, it was an opportunity to go back in part to the days of where the masquerade theme originated from. For this event, we found ourselves at the prestigious Beyond Lounge in London’s luscious Kensington among the boutiques and five-star cuisine. Going underground, the entire French Tuesdays team were eager to start the evening’s festivities on the rare occasion of a Friday night instead of the normal Tuesday. Following in line with theVenetian Carni- val of Venice which was first held in the 11th century, it consisted of over two months of revelry, until it fell into decline during the 18th century. It was revived in 1979 with great success and today is a great excuse to don a mask and costume. Tonight was a reminiscent of the mas- querade balls once held in St. Mark’s Square in Venice which can be seen on the fresco walls of famous café Quadri. Efforts had been made all-round in cel- ebrating this annual festive occasion made significant within a social gath- ering loyal to that of French Tuesday’s events. Music was supplied by Norway's Dj Stisema, no stranger to the roster and in getting those bodies bopping at the newly furbished Beyond Lounge, a venue well placed and a stone’s throw from London's Knightsbridge. Tonight's amusements made the heart smile while Taittinger champagne, proud sponsor of this evening’s event helped soothe away the mask wearing harlequins’ and courte- sans’ woes of a long-winded week. The motto here may be ‘work hard and play harder’, but at least some are well on their way to an eye-catching night of festivities. www.frenchtuesdays.com bitenightout
