It has an exten- sive and exciting cocktail list that attracts the young and trendy so there is sure to be a good atmosphere. El Refolo located in Via Garibaldi is a lively wine bar with an extensive list of bottles that you can enjoy whilst having cicchetti , small snacks such as salami and cheese. MQ10 on Fondamenta di Cannaregio may be a tiny bar but it stays open well after midnight, serving the classic Spritz, martinis and fruit mojitos, along with small snacks such as salads, paninis and plates of salami and cheese. As its name may suggest, Beast Club located in Meste lives up to its name and offers pumping house music, swaying lasers and sweaty dance floors. If you get too hot, don’t worry, there are cubby holes to escape into. Also in Meste is Molocinque, a restaurant/nightclub with an impressive art deco columned façade and an equally impressive collection of music in everything from hip hop to merengue.Whilst Piccolo Mondo is not classed as a nightclub per se, it is a bar that plays ‘70s disco music such as Abba, Bee Gees and other classics that will get the locals having a boogie. Some of the islands that you may consider exploring include Murano Island, famous for its glass-making and the most popular one to visit; Burano Island, with its pictur- esque canals lined with colourful houses as well as a good few restaurants serving risotto and very fresh fish;Torcello Island, a quiet, green island with a nature reserve and an excellent place to get away from the crowds.Visit the 7th century Cathe- dral of Santa Maria Dell’Assunta to see the spectacular 11th and 12th century Byzantine mosaics; San Michele Island, Venice’s cemetery island where you’ll find two churches and many tombs on this nicely landscaped piece of land, including famous ex-pats Ezra Pound in the Prot- estant section and Sergei Diaghilev and Igor Stravinsky in the Orthodox section; and Sant’Erasmo Island, the largest in the Venetian lagoon which is mainly an agri- cultural island, sometimes called Garden of Venice .There aren’t much tourist sights to see on this island but there is a restored 19th century fort near the Capannone stop and a church by the Chiesa stop as well as number of birds. To get to Venice there is the luxurious Venice Simplon-Orient Express that runs from London to Venice and Paris toVenice return. Flights into Marco Polo airport is the closest to central Venice while Treviso, 70 minutes by bus from Piazzale Roma is used by most low-cost airlines.You can arrive inVenice by car but only as far as the western edge where cars remain parked at the entrance of the city in Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, Europe’s largest car park, or alternatively, you can use the car parks on the main- land (Terraferma) and catch a train, bus or vaporetto intoVenice. bitetravel
