S ome fashion styles of the masses haven’t changed all that much in the last few centu- ries. Give or take a few nips and tucks here and there, with more tailored silhouettes and slimmer cut trousers aside, what was casual 100 years ago for men and maybe 50 odd years ago for women still seems to rule the public spaces the world over: simple shirt and pair of pants. So, if we take a moment to focus on the simpler fashion developments of the past rather than focusing on the avant-garde, haute couture or even the uber-trendy, we can see that the above statement is true. Simplicity will always rule as tried and true: classics will always be in vogue. As such, the designers at the London based clothing label, Lane Forty Five have taken traditional, classic styles and blended them with vintage detailing, geographical influences and cultures to produce bespoke unisex pieces for those seeking high-quality clothes made spe- cifically for them and their lifestyles.“The product that you find here is a result of meticulous craftsmanship combined with fine attention to detail and selection of fabrics and materials. Designs are influenced by the lifestyle of the working-man from pre-1950's decade, underlined by contemporary utility and comfort. The idea is to provide a garment that is robust, simple, fresh, and would form a long-lasting relationship with the wearer.” That being said, this label certainly appeals to the masses in a very real and livable manner.When I first saw their clothing, I was quite impressed with the quality of crafts- manship and the extensive fabric choices. The clothes themselves were unique, but only because one doesn’t happen upon some of these styles or silhouettes on the high street very often. But when one does, everyone takes notice because they’re just that good and good style never goes out of fashion. Featuring longer shirt length in designs like their Book- keeper, Plainview, or the really cute Jekyll, an assortment of smocks, waistcoats, jackets, pants, leather belts and very sturdy and utilitarian aprons, their pieces are meant to be worn again and again. Overall, I especially loved their Jekyll tops in the pale blue vertical stripe or cream fabric, the durable aprons that look like they could with- stand any cooking dilemma or splatter that any master chef would throw at them, and the Conveyor trousers. The higher waistline on these pants looks incredibly flattering and very comfortable. I’m seriously contem- plating ordering a pair in the khaki twill for running around town for when the autumn season comes. These vintage inspired but still current pieces are ideal for everyone.
