the bonnet has a pronounced, raised centre section and two side channels that channel air from the two vents in the bumper. The distinctive engine cover features longitudinal ribs which generate a three-dimensional, dynamic effect and are flanked outboard by sculpted mesh grilles. Verdict So which of the two Italian giants came up on top?Well, while Lamborghini has a bigger engine than its rival with ten cyl- inders compared to Ferrari’s eight, the prancing horse wins the engine round thanks to their twin turbochargers. With 661bhp and 561lb ft of torque, they are also ahead of the Huracán’s 602bhp and 412lb ft, putting Ferrari further in the lead. The difference in performance may be reasonably close but Ferrari steam ahead with their faster acceleration of 3.0 seconds from 0-62mph and top speed of 203 mph compared to Lamborghini’s 3.4 seconds and top speed of 201mph. However, the raging bull fights back with the naturally aspirated wail of their V10 engine which easily outmuscles the louder and angrier Ferrari. Whilst both cars have retractable little windows at the rear, there is a difference in material: Lamborghini has a folding fabric roof which retracts in 17 seconds while Ferrari continues with the same hard top as the 458 Spider which retracts in a lesser time of 14 seconds keeping them in the lead. When it comes to rounding those corners, you’ll certainly need stability. Ferrari’s latest generation of Side Slip Control may be an easy drift mode, however Lamborghini’s four wheel drive has a sharper throttle response and linear power delivery so brings them another step forward. With its seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox, carbon-ceramic brakes and optional dynamic steering, you’d think that the Huracán would easily steam ahead of its rival but in comes the 488 Spider with its blown spoiler, variable flap geometry and vortex generators as well as its magnetorheological dampers and torque control technology that keeps Ferrari in the lead. Now that we have established the 488 Spider wins hands down in the battle of the Italians, let’s not forgot this is based on the technical side of the models. The real test will be when the two cars are pitted against each other on the same road. However, when it comes to the marques promoting their models via video, we much prefer Lamborghini’s ‘Own The Sky’. http://488spider.ferrari.com www.lamborghini.com bitecars
