Dawn Hunt reveals how Irregular Choice was started and the popularity of the Star Wars and Alice in Wonderland shoes biteshoes S hoes, glorious shoes! Some people say you only really need one or two great pairs, the kind that are timeless, amazing quality and so loved they’re practically your feet’s best friend. But, honestly, who wants only one or two pairs of shoes when there are so many, many amazing pairs out there? Everything from the durable sneaker to the true sculptural art of high-end couture stilettoes, shoes have a place in the fashion world – a big place. However, what happens when shoes becomes boring? (Heaven forbid!) But it has happened with periods of time where seemingly blocks of black leather or hideous rubber scuff along the footpaths of the world with no colour, no vision, and no beauty. That’s when visionary cobblers, designers and shoe buyers/store owners take things upon themselves and boom, suddenly there’s dancing in the streets! Dan Sullivan, the mastermind and creator of Irregular Choice, saw this need for standout footwear in the market. Hailing from a family of creative shoe designers, (his parents being the cre- ators of their own irregular footwear collections, including ‘Transport’ and ‘Chaos Creators’), Sullivan used his fam- ily’s knowledge and his upbringing as inspiration to form his own line of foot- wear and shoe stores. Born in London, Sullivan grew up on Kings Road during the ‘70s at the beginning of the punk era, and was lucky enough to travel the world throughout the ‘80s with his family. This initial traveling allotted him the oppor- tunity to see and experience wonderful and stimulating locations, allowing him to absorb everything that he witnessed.
