blonde highlights. There are no set rules but be careful the colours don’t look
like a poor home colour. Ask your hairdresser to apply the colours in a
horseshoe section around the head and zig-zagged into the parting so the
colours naturally merge into each other. This look can be as subtle or striking
as you like.”
Another colour trend Karine’s working on is ‘red’ - whether it’s subtle
strawberry blonde a la Blake Lively, bold Crayola red like Rihanna, or something
in the middle as seen on Scarlett Johansson.
Hair styles this year are bigger, bolder and with a lot more texture, so the
colour really needs to stand out. Karine says, “It’s all about technique this
season, and one of our favourites is called ‘sedimentary colour’ using
permanent or semi-permanent colour. It’s great for shaggier haircuts and is
essentially layering with colour. Starting at the nape, we take inch sections from
ear to ear and apply one colour, then your next inch section on top of that in
the second chosen colour repeating this to the top, and using various blondes
or various gold and coppers, but nothing too natural. Reds on coppers (a la
Vivienne Westwood’s collection) is a hot look, and even bleach blondes are
awash with reds or coppers.
We’ve also devised a new salon technique called the lotus flower
application. We take sections around the head in large petal shapes and just
change the shade on each petal section slightly using summer orange and
desert orange shades. For on trend colour, think all those super reds, but
especially those with an orange tone as seen at Cacharel,YSL, Hermes,Vivienne
Westwood and Fendi...”
