“Why did he die, he asked God to save him, why didn’t God listen?”
On stage, Jessie never fails to give an electrifying performance with
her strong and powerful voice. Despite falling off a platform and ruptur-
ing the tendons in her left foot during rehearsals for the Capital
Summertime Ball, the singer defied doctor’s orders and performed to
thousands of fans at Wembley Stadium. Seated on a red and gold throne
(is she getting ready to take over as Queen of pop?) to ease pressure off her
bandaged foot, she told the crowd. “I was told to stay home. But I said, are
you crazy? I’m not letting down my fans.”
At Glastonbury, Jessie once again refused to let her fans down and
hobbled onto the stage with crutches, dressed in a black and white catsuit
and looking sensational in bold but striking pastel purple and light
maroon make-up. Seated on the same red and gold throne used at the
Summertime Ball, the singer gave another outstanding performance
before a crowd of thousands. After the festival, Jessie finally went into
hospital to have emergency surgery. The doctors then discovered her foot
was broken in two places, and not ruptured tendons as first thought. Jessie
finally succumbing to strict medical orders to rest her foot had to cancel
a number of festival performances, including Orange Rock Corps in Paris
and Wembley and iTunes Festival. The singer, who was extremely upset,
sent a heartfelt apology to her fans: “Sorry doesn’t feel enough to say; I am
devastated for my fans that I know have been waiting to see me and work-
ing hard for tickets. I was so excited about the summer and I’m as upset
as you all are. But unfortunately these things happen. I have to remain
positive and I promise I will make
it up later in the year.”
Jessie, often seen on stage per-
forming in stylish bodysuits and
skyscraper heels, paved the way for
the return of the 80’s fashion origi-
nal. She’s also a big fan of patterned
tights and counts Henry Holland
and Wolford tights as her
favourites. With a slender figure and endlessly long pins (she’s 5’9), Jessie
carries the style very well and looks amazing in high heels, although she
has admitted her towering choice of shoes can be a performance hazard
on stage. On Britain’s Got Talent, she ditched her black high heeled shoes
during her performance (whether it was because of discomfort or just part
of her act, we cannot tell) and told a magazine about a heel ordeal she
had. “I tripped over recently when I was performing at a gig. My
shoes were so high that I fell over – but I just changed the lyrics
of the song to make it fit!” Is our Jessie becoming a bit of an acci-
dent prone? We certainly hope not!
Described as having an incredible sense of style, Jessie fea-
tured in a rock ‘n’ roll Gothic editorial for Vogue Italia’s June
issue; shot by popular Italian photographer Francesco Carrozzini
and styled by Enrica Ponzellini. The spread captured a dark, sin-
ister and fashionably edgy, chic and gothic side of the singer. This
will no doubt give her some styling ideas, as Jessie has revealed a
desire to start her own fashion range.
In June, at the Glamour Awards held at the Sanderson Hotel,
the singer was named Woman of Tomorrow, and turned heads as she
dressed to impress in a black sequinned D&G gown, showing a more
glamorous and feminine side. Those who attended had to look twice
as the singer arrived at the event without her trademark black bob
and dark dramatic make-up, opting instead for softer, wavy curls and
lighter toned make-up. At the February London Fashion Week party,
Jessie also outshone top model Lily Cole in an embroidered pale green
bodysuit styled with a crown of metallic leaves.
The hardworking singer started her journey as an unsigned artist,
supporting established artists on the biggest platforms in world. She is
now signed to Universal Records, and this is all due to her determination
and talent. We hope that her foot will be fully healed by the time she
kicks off her Heartbeat Tour in October so that we can witness the stun-
ning show that she’s bound to perform, but if we know Jessie J, she’ll
crack out the crutches again if she has to!

‘Who’s Laughing Now
’ is fully-loaded with Jessie’s signature powerhouse
vocals and a killer-pop chorus but on closer listen the lyrics tell a more person-
al story, delving into Jessie’s childhood memories of playground bullying and not
fitting in. Full of punch with an inspiring message this track is set to soar over
the airwaves this summer. Chart-topper DJ Fresh and Xaphoon Jones have
remixed the track and both can be heard on the below link.
