ZANZIBAR
Essque Zalu
In June, Essque opened this five star boutique hotel in Zanzibar, nestled
in a natural cove on the north east coast. To one side lies the turquoise
water of the Indian Ocean and lush green forest to the other. Zalu
Zanzibar is built in the local style to blend into the landscape, with
thatched roofs reflecting the modern African feel. The hotel has 40
suites and 9 three and four bedroom villas. Each suite has a large en-
suite master bedroom, generous lounge and outside terrace or balcony
overlooking gardens, pool or ocean. The villas each have a private pool,
massage room and dining facilities. The hotel offers three restaurants,
from deli-style to a la carte, to al fresco dining on the shoreline. The spa
focuses on spiritual re-alignment and revitalisation and there’s also an
in-hotel art gallery showcasing local, regional and international artists.
