Nicholas K – Autumn/Winter 2012

Nicholas K kick started fashion month today with his opening collection for New York Fashion Week.

The collection overall had a relaxed stance, yet it revealed an element of sportiness. Overall the colour scheme of this show was very earthy. There were lots of khaki, deep greys and blacks, yet we saw this occasional dash of silver, which only added to the wintery concept of the show.

This collection seemed all about layering. Outerwear was mixed with oversized cardigans and angular shaped tops, while the eveningwear injected a small sparkle with delicate and intricate fringing upon sequinned dresses. Yet it was the sheer fabrics that were used for stirrup leggings and sheer tops that caught my eye, as they brought an element of sexiness to the collection.

What I liked most about this show was the mixture of leather and fur. Buttery soft leather coats and jackets featuring fur lining, reminded us that yes we are stepping into the winter season, but these jackets were given a twist, acute pieces of different coloured leather was attached to make a simplistic jacket something that could only be described as out of this world.

While accessories wise we saw these ornate necklaces made up of tortoise shells and shark teeth, re-iterating that earthy sense of notion that the collection portrayed. Fedora style hats were worn and shoe wise over the knee suede boots and wedges were the main contender, thus only making that step into the fall season that little bit more fashionable.

See my favourite looks from this collection below.
