Opening to the public around mid-July, the venue will be located waterside at the steps leading down from Cabot Square onto Mackenzie Walk, just a few minutes’ walk from Canary Wharf Under- ground and DLR stations. Nearby residents, visitors, and city workers will be delighted with the extensive selection on offer. Founded by James Dawson in 2009, Humble Grape was originally a wine tasting events, importer and off-trade sup- plier to restaurants. In 2015, Dawson decided to grow the concept to include a wine bar and shop with the opening of the first Humble Grape in Battersea thanks to the success- ful crowd-funding campaign in 2014. They then went on to open more shops in Fleet Street, Islington, and Liverpool Street as a result of the additional successful crowd-funding campaigns in 2017 and 2019. Under the guidance of wine manager Desiree Russo, there will be a rotation of 30 wines available by the glass and 400 lines of wine by the bottle representing 16 wine producing countries from 95 vineyards at Canary Wharf. “We import our wines directly from small family wineries that champi- on sustainable, organic, or biodynamic practices,” Desiree revealed. "Thanks to our close-knit relationships with our winemakers, we are able to share their unique (and some- times funny) stories with our guests.” These very unique stories, as we discovered two years ago when we first came across Humble Grape, include ex-geol- ogist Rose Jordaan who produces the 2015 Bartinney Sau- vignon Blanc in Stellenbosch, South Africa up a mountain on her family farm. As an avid environmentalist, she has planted over 7,000 trees and invites all sorts of wildlife to roam free. And Vecchie Terre Montefili wines, the very first in their region to adopt biodynamic farming, who have to outwit the sneaky wild pigs that snaffle the grapes. At Humble Grape in Canary Wharf, you’ll be able to enjoy Hello Canary Wharf Humble Grape Independent wine company Humble Grape says hello to Canary Wharf as they open their first shop in the district.
