The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25

bite catwalk ANA T his collection was full of individuality, flair and personality. Inspired by the origins of voguing in the ballroom scene of the late ‘80s, Ana Locking’s SS19 collection expresses “be whatever you want to be”. Freedom beyond social stigma, voguing became a mode in which to express oneself through dance in a safe environ- ment. It was meant to be a parallel reality where diversity is celebrated and you are free to be anything you want. The cat- walk featured a singer accompanied with voguing perform- ers as models sashayed down the runway enhancing the at- titude of their clothing. Inspirations from the cult film Paris is Burning run through the theatrical lines in the collection. Tight trousers and booty shorts contrasted with dramatic sleeves, played with volume in a fun and theatrical way that’s highly reminiscent of the ‘80s. Clashing prints also played as a statement throughout the collection, as well as printed tops and jackets with bold colours that clashed together. There were many throwbacks to the ‘80s, such as the ‘tin foil’ styled metallic fabrics, green leopard prints and yellow ge- ometrics. There was also a play on camp, grey suit jackets which were paired with harnesses and suspenders, shim- mering catsuits and boxy boiler suits in exciting fabrics, taking the serious and making it fun. The key colours were green, yellow, grey ,and pink which reappeared through the collection in feathered and fringed dresses. The sense of movement throughout the collection really harked back to the drama of the ‘80s disco scene, a perfect modern adaption of an iconic era. www.analocking.com
