The Bite Magazine - Summer 2019 - Issue 25

bite catwalk OLIVA E xploring the beauty found in new materials and sus- tainable approaches Oliva presented a collection of elegance in a futuristic almost post-apocalyptic environment. In a collection of primarily all-black outfits, from boots to bags there was something captivatingly ominous. Heavy woollen jumpers were cinched in with thick black belts and statement buckles, paired with floor length skirts. Elements of the collection were somewhat reminiscent of the matrix, with floor length coats, blacked-out sunglasses, sharp and structured tailoring paired with soft and elegant silk dresses. Long leather-like skirts felt heavy duty in among satin wind- breakers and leather bags. Jumper dresses and jersey gowns stretched and flounced with movement, and several dress- es were enhanced with sensuality featuring cutout shoulders and tied tops exposing the midriff, while others completely obscured the body in darkness, contrasting with sheer mesh tops paired with wrap skirts tied at the waist and draped to the floor. It felt like there was a hidden message that Oliva wanted to subtly provoke through his collection with the final message on the catwalk voicing “This bitter Earth”, perhaps a look at how sustainability needs to become a wider approach in the future of fashion. www.juanjooliva.com/en
