The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24

bite fashion N ow that spring has come and we have warmer days, it’s the perfect excuse to get more colourful with our wardrobe and in harmony with the season’s mood. When you look at Los Angeles womens- wear brand Odd People’s SS19 collection, two words may spring to mind: cheeky and tender. Sometimes, despite her confidence and strength, a woman will want to remain feminine and tender, and this brand fulfils this desire in the best possible way. In their first collection, Odd People showcase the casual glamour that char- acterises them so well. The co-founders, Jene Park and Brandon Sun, have experience working with luxury brands such as Thomas Wylde, a global ready-to-wear and accessories brand, and the late fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, specialising in exquisite womenswear and iconic craftmanship inspired by couture occasion wear. Perhaps this was what pushed them and their unusual but fascinating un- derstanding of fashion. Jene was also influenced by the fact that she grew up in South Korea, where the ability to dress exquisitely was part of the cul- ture. Their collection consists of delicate colours such as transparent black and grey as well as brighter hues of turquoise, bright pink and yellow, while the patterns have elements of different shapes that would delight lovers of unusual features. Their clothing has a retro-like rock element that nods to the ‘70s with lots of frills, polka dots and layers such as the Plunging Back Blouse in Black and Peony. This piece is made from tencel georgette with a dramatic neck tie and gathered oversized sleeves with an all-over crystal constellation embellish- ment. Or the Cold-Shoulder Dress in peony also made from tencel georgette with romantic cascading ruffles and gathered oversized sleeves. I also liked the French Terry Pullover in Peony, Black and Daisy, from washed sorona-cotton with ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ screen print and a crystal VOLT embellishment; the French Terry Hoodie in Peony, Black and White, from washed sorona-cotton with cascading ruffles bordering the cut-out sleeves and matching shorts; and the Drop-Crotch Print Track Pants in Jade, Came- lia and Grey designed in silk-cotton voile with Don’t Call Me Baby’ all-over print.
