Fabulous Things on Watch on Netflix Right Now

If you’ve spent the last few days binge watching Orange Is The New Black as if your life depending on it whilst desperately waiting for the next instalment of Pretty Little Liars then it might be time to step away from the drama and indulge in something a little more educational. They may have the best original series in town but Netflix also have some pretty fabulous fashion documentaries that must be seen. Think of it as a feast for the eyes as well as the mind.

Dior and I

This wonderful documentary is a must for anyone who’s a fan of Dior, Raf Simons, Couture and a love of craftsmanship. Following Simon’s as he designs his first couture collection for the house, Dior and I offers a fantastic insight not only into the mind of its former creative director but also the many cogs that keep the operation running. Whilst I am personally a huge, HUGE fan of Raf Simons, the undoubted stars of the film are the petit mains working in the two couture ateliers and the two women helming them as they work on the most breathing and intricate of pieces. If you’ve never before understood why couture is so expensive you certainly will after watching this.

Iris

In a social media led world where were are constantly subjected perfectly airbrushed imagery of the next pretty young thing (*ahem* Kendall, *ahem* Gigi) it’s wonderfully refreshing to see the focus return to a woman of great substance. Iris Apfel is a force to be reckoned with and at the tender age of 93 she’s not slowing down any time soon. Flamboyantly dressed and always quick-witted, the documentary is a lesson in enthusiasm, glamour and the importance of work as well as a jolt of reality to anyone who thinks that fashion and style have an expiration date.

The True Cost

In the years since the Rana Plaza tragedy that saw over a 1000 factory workers lose their lives, the provenance of our of clothing has been a hot topic. Fast fashion is certainly light on the bank balance but consumers rarely stop to wonder the true cost of a £3 top. The True Cost delves into the unglamorous areas of the fashion industry that are all to often ignored to and with interviews from the likes of Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, it takes the viewer from the runway to the slums to highlight the lives of the people behind our clothes. It may not be fabulous but it is a vastly important watch.
